Since I often turn to other bloggers for recommendations on where to visit, I figured it was time that I start sharing some of my favorite local spots in Seattle and the surrounding areas. I'll be adding a new tab called "Explore Seattle" that will highlight these places!
Many of my favorite places to visit in the city involve food, so I let my cravings guide me to my first spotlight: General Porpoise Doughnuts in Capitol Hill.
Tyler and I will often make our way to General Porpoise (or as we call it, Captain Dolphin) for a Sunday morning treat. The filled doughnuts are really tasty, and some of the flavors switch out seasonally. For this visit we had a bit of a late start, and arrived about an hour before closing. I recommend Getting there earlier in the day if you want a wider variety of options, but if you're open to trying anything than you don't need to worry about them running out.
If doughnuts aren't enough to draw you in, I recommend trying some espresso, or the chai made in house! Both options are yummy, and the warm drinks compliment the sweets well.
Not only is the ambiance of the shop totally perfect – I'm talking tons of natural light and the cutest decor, but everything around it is awesome as well. After we finish our "meal", we always like to explore the neighborhood. General Porpoise is located in the best (in my opinion) area of Capitol Hill, just around the corner from other great spots like Frankie & Jo's, Sweet Iron, Everyday Music, and Elliott Bay Book Company. I plan to feature each of these at some point in the future, but if you end up trying General Porpoise be sure to swing by some of the other great businesses!
