While I've always had a love for fashion, I haven't always known how to be comfortable with my personal style. For a long time I played it safe and only wore neutrals. There was always this idea that designers always wear black, and as silly as it sounds I felt like I needed to fit in with that stereotype.
Over time my closet grew more and more monochromatic. It wasn't until a year ago that I started to realize that I wasn't really feeling like myself in any of the things I bought. Even with a closet full of things I had only worn once or twice (and honestly a few things that still had the tags on), I would really struggle choosing an outfit at the start of each day. It felt like a constant state of "I have nothing to wear".
When I was planning my trip to Disney World during spring break senior year, I had this feeling that I wanted to try something new. I went to Forever 21 and picked out a bunch of colorful pieces that made me feel excited about style for the first time in awhile, and after that, I've never looked back. I've allowed myself to fill my closet full of bright new looks and finally feel like I've found my own personal style.
I've definitely learned the importance of letting yourself be drawn to the things you really love. Sometimes style can be scary, and you don't know if you can really pull something off. My advice is to go for it. Buy that purse full of glitter because it makes you happy and don't talk yourself out being you.
