When it comes to accessories, I love a good conversation piece! I've always gravitated toward statement necklaces and funky earrings, but recently I've started experimenting with my purses too.
Basket bags have been trending like crazy this year, so when I saw this woven cactus from Olive and Pepper I immediately fell in love. What better way to show off my crazy plant lady tendencies than with this adorable shoulder bag? And I would choose pompoms over prickles any day.
I plan to transition this bag to fall with a cute jacket and booties combo, but until then I'm turning to my trusty saltwater sandals and comfy drawstring shorts from Forever 21 for a laidback summer look. I like to pair my statement pieces with simple outfits so the muted yellow and soft cream felt like the obvious choice to debut the cactus.
When I decided I wanted to revive my blog about a year and half ago, I never expected that I would find such a strong community of women! In college I considered my blog to be deeply personal, but since graduation I've found that it's allowed me to connect with so many other ladies who share the same love of fashion.
On Saturday one local group, Seattle Girl Bosses celebrated their 1st birthday with the dreamiest garden party at Green Lake! Not only was the decor gorgeous and the food tasty, but it was the perfect setting to make new friends and catch up with other bloggers.
This event wouldn't have been made possible without the vision of Marellen, and the help of all the talented women who sponsored the party:
Be sure to check out all these awesome female-ran companies for your next event! I'm already brainstorming ideas for my birthday party 😍
Since jeans are such an important staple piece, it's really important to me that I feel confident in them! Shopping for the perfect fit can be so difficult for me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way. Similar to swimsuits, it can be discouraging to try on pair after pair hoping to find one that will finally look just right. But when you do find that perfect pair, it can be so exciting!
I know when I've got a good thing going, which is why I've been turning to American Eagle for my denim since middle school. Back then I looked at fashion as something that let me fit in with others, by wearing popular brands and trends even when they didn't feel like me. Luckily I've figured some things out since then. Now fashion is an important part of how I express myself, and I gravitate towards trends that speak to my personal style! Sometimes that means stepping outside of my comfort zone to try something new. Having the perfect pair of AE jeans makes me feel fearless when I'm trying a bold shoe or a unique top!
For this look I went with asoft yellow top from American Eagle, that has the cutest embroidery and bow details. While the chunky Forever 21 heels weren't my smartest pick for the cobblestone streets of Pike Place, I loved how they were able to dress up an otherwise more casual look and bring out the flirty feeling of the shirt!
If you're interested in any of the pieces from my look be sure to check them out below, and follow me on LIKEtoKNOW.it to stay up to date.
Thank you to American Eagle for collaborating on this post! I received the jeans and top at no cost, in exchange for my honest review.
Is it time for Riverdale to come back yet?? I'm so used to binging shows on Netflix that I feel like I'm going crazy waiting for new episodes.
If you haven't watched Riverdale yet, I definitely recommend you check it out! Everyone secretly loves a show about unrealistic HS drama, and since I'm still mourning the loss of Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill I've been loving the Archie spin on the classic tropes. My childhood friend Danny would always let me borrow his Archie comics when we were kids, and the tv adaptation is everything I didn't know I was missing in my life.
I was always most excited to read the Betty and Veronica comics (of course), so it's no surprise that they are the best part of the show too! When I found the Betty and Veronica inspired line of clothing and accessories I couldn't resist - I had to rep my favorite duo ?
This "Girl Talk" pin is definitely one of my favorite things I bought. Pins are such a fun way to accessorize, whether you're embellishing a denim jacket, or swapping out your necklace for a colorful brooch. I love the unique design of this one, with the chain linking the two pins together. It's perfect for a collar, or can be worn staggered like I did with this look!
Whenever I'm wearing my B&V accessories I like to play up the flirty/girly theme, so this ruffled J Crew skirt was a no brainer in the hot pink. And it's under $30 on clearance right now! If it came in more fun colors I would have bought the whole rainbow. For reference, I'm wearing a size 0 and have a 27-28 inch waist.
As for the other accessories, I've been wearing these shoes on repeat! They are under $25 from Forever 21 and come in a few different colors. In my experience they run true to size, and are surprisingly comfortable for the price.
My clutch is from Studio DIY's clutch subscription "Can't Clutch This". I receive a few different subscription sets, in a variety of categories, but hands down the clutches are the best! Each design is so quirky and unique, and I get so excited to style them each month. What better way to tie together a girly comic book style than with a cactus purse?
If you're a Disney fan, then you've probably heard of the new Pixar Pier that has opened in California Adventure! Tyler and I had never visited the parks together, and had been wanting a weekend getaway so we decided that Pixar Fest (the celebration of the pier's opening) would be the perfect time.
When we researched the best weekend to go, we were seeing averages of 80-90 degrees in LA during July. Little did we know when we booked our flight, it would end up being over 100 degrees during our trip ?
The heatwave really threw me through a loop when it came time pack, and I had to change around some of my park outfits in order to make sure I wouldn't melt! Luckily I had just ordered this overall dress from Forever 21, which was light enough for the temp and super comfy for the rides (plus it's flowy so I could eat as many Mickey Bars as I wanted ?)
Originally I had planned to wear a long bell-sleeved top underneath, but had to switch it out for a tank. I chose to go with a simple design, so that the focus would stay on the cute buckles of the dress, but you could easily add a statement necklace or pair it with a funkier top! I also considered wearing my scarf around my neck, but since the color was so similar to the dress I decided to tie it around my backpack instead.
While a good pair of ears is always a Disneyland must, there are a few other things I can't go without:
